Born: 1816, Kirkby Lonsdale, Westmoreland, Cumbria, England.
Died: October 2, 1878.
Allen was educated in Kirkby Lonsdale. After living for a while in Glasgow, he returned to Kirkby Lonsdale and worked at the local bank. He published 148 hymns in Hymns of the Christian Life (London: Nisbet, 1861).
