Born: April 12, 1834, Frome, Somersetshire, England.
Died: July 2, 1916, New York City.
Messiter emigrated to America in 1863, and sang in the choir at Trinity Church in New York City. He later played the organ in Poultney, Vermont; Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; and at Trinity Church, New York City (1866), where he served 31 years. His works include:

* Choir Office Book, 1891
* Hymnal with Music as Used in Trinity Church, 1893
* A History of the Choir and the Music of Trinity Church (New York: 1906)
