Born: July 1, 1825, Newark, New Jersey.

Died: 1893, New York City.

Walter studied music under Edward Hodges, and played the organ at the Church of the Epiphany; St. John’s Chapel; St. Paul’s Chapel; and Trinity Chapel, New York City. He received an honorary Doctor of Music degree from Columbia University in 1864. His works include:

* Manual of Church Music, 1860
* The Common Prayer, with Ritual Song, 1868
