Christ Jesus, our Lord,
His ear to us bows,
When to Him we plead,
A refuge He shows.
Our life may diminish,
And death will soon be;
Yet we will not falter,
Our Helper is He.
When anguish draws nigh,
Delights from us pass,
The tears flood our eyes,
No earthly help lasts,
Then we turn to Jesus
For He is our Friend.
We call on our Saviour,
Our lot to amend.
To men we can't bring
This burdensome grief;
To Heaven we raise
Our hearts for relief.
For there dwelleth wisdom,
And goodness and grace.
There dwelleth forgiveness,
Our debt to erase.
Draw near to our great
Deliverer's throne,
And rev'rence God's name;
He strengthens His own.
In likeness of mortals
To earth He once came,
Death's power Christ conquered,
Believe in His Name!
