Born to poor parents, Cawood had little formal education as a child, but at age 18 he was engaged in the service of Rev. Mr. Cursham, Sutton-in-Ashfield, Nottinghamshire. In 1797, after three years of study under Cursham’s direction, Cawood entered St. Edmund Hall at Oxford. He graduated in 1801, took Holy Orders, and became successively Curate of Ribsford and Dowles, and Incumbent of St. Ann’s Chapel of Ease, Bewdley, Worcestershire. Nine of his 17 hymns appeared in Cotterill’s Selection, 8th edition, 1819. Three others appeared in Lyra Britannica, 1867.

Born in the Van Wert Ohio Hospital on June 27, 1960, Alvin (Bud) Herman Manz, Jr. was the 3rd of 4 sons born to Betty Manz and firstborn to her second husband, Alvin.

His older siblings, John Paul Rose, Jr. (1956) and Joseph Henry Rose (1957), were born to John Paul Rose. In 1958, John Sr. passed away leaving Betty with 2 little boys to care for until she met Alvin Manz and got married to him on October 3, 1959.

Bud's younger sibling, Robert James Manz, Sr., was born on August 23, 1961.

Bud never married, instead lives with his father just south of Defiance Ohio.
