What could be more delightful,
More joy and peace create,
Than when to Thee, O Saviour,
Our lives we consecrate?
We live in blessed nearness,
To Thee, Lord day by day,
As if our eyes beheld Thee
And joy attends our way.
Our lips may be in silence,
Yet prays our heart to Thee;
Our thoughts are e'er ascending
To heaven constantly.
With mercy and with goodness
Our hearts are oft refreshed,
And when we need His presence
He answers our request.
Around His foot stool bowing
As children dear are we,
And when our tears are flowing,
Straight to His heart we flee.
When we at last grow weary,
He brings us to our rest,
And in our graves we tarry,
Reposing with the blest.
There we shall sleep securely,
Naught shall the silence break,
Till on that glorious morning,
He calls; "Awake, Awake!"
What further shall transpire,
We scarcely now surmise;
'Twill seem like dreamful fancy,
What there shall meet your eyes.
