Oft I read the blessed Bible,
How God sent His precious gift;
How our Lord is love and mercy,
Came the sinful load to lift.
How He called the little children,
How each child by Him was blest;
In His loving arms embraced them,
Pressed them gently to His breast.
How His help and tender mercy,
On the sick He did bestow!
To the poor, the meek, and lowly,
He His love divine did show.
How He did accept each sinner,
Who forsook His erring ways,
Gladly did He lift the burdens,
From the soul who gave Him praise.
How He gently led His children,
Light and strength He did impart;
With His love and tender mercy,
Sought to draw them to His heart.
I am never weary reading,
Hearing of His wondrous love;
How His loving, tender mercy,
Draws us to His home above.
How God sent His precious gift;
