The bands of earth henceforth I sever
To live no more in vanity!
My sojourn here is not forever,
To go from hence my lot shall be.
In realms above, with my dear Father,
A home eternal I shall gain;
There also shall I see my Brother
Who in eternity as King shall reign.
With trustful heart from earth to heaven
I look, oh, Lord, with longing trend,
Where bonds and fetters shall be riven,
Where Thou before us didst ascend;
A place above for us preparing
Where with the spotless angel band
Eternal bliss and rapture sharing
We shall possess fore'er that heav'nly land!
For this, oh, Lord, Thou has created
And purchased me with Thine own blood!
A heav'nly citizen instated,
Baptized a bride of Christ the Lord.
When may I, Lamb of God, embrace Thee,
When may I on Thy bosom rest?
O call me soon, my Lord, and place me
Where I shall sing Thy praise with all the blest!
