In the shadow of the Rock,
Let me rest,
When I feel the tempest's shock
Thrill my breast,
All in vain the storms shall sweep,
While I hide,
And my tranquil station keep
By Thy side.

I in peace will rest me there,
Till I see,
That the skies again are fair

That the burning heats are past,
And the day,
Bids the traveler at last

Then my pilgrim staff I'll take,
