O, let us exalt our dear Lord and proclaim,
In songs of true gratitude, praise to His name!
As songs of the angels in sweetest accord,
Our thanks and our praises shall rise to the Lord.

Lyrics
O list to the story that never grows old,
Its tidings of joy repeat,
The Savior is come by the prophets foretold,
To Bethlehem's quiet street.
The miracle star shines in splendor above,
The stable so dingy and worn
So humble a cradle of One who is Love,
And there Jesus Christ is born.

The swift beating wings of the angels bring fear,
And scurry the sheep in fright,
But glad of the honor are spirits who hear,
And seek for The Better Light.
The awestricken shepherds with staff in their hands,
Kneel down by the manger so dim,
And worshipping kings from the orient lands
Find wonder and rest in Him.

The world is so dull and the world is so dead,
With ribaldry, pomp and gain,
And like the foul stable where cattle are fed,
So life has become profane.
Still travails the heart in the birth of the King,
More strange than the wandering star,
The Word becomes flesh, an incredible thing,
But truest of things that are.
