Lyrics
Truly lovely, calm and gentle,
Falls the peaceful eventide;
May my will and spirit always
Thus in tranquil peace abide;
Then would all this earthly turmoil
Like a dream soon pass away,
And the blessed joy of heaven
Anchored in my spirit stay.
Loving Thee lends life true merit,
Finding in Thee blessed rest;
He who has his heart thus yielded
Shall with peaceful sleep be blest;
He partakes before reposing,
From Thy Word, the fount of light,
Then to sleep does turn serenely,
Darkest nights for him are bright.
Daily teach me to be watchful,
Nightly let me rest in Thee;
For Thou, Lord, my sins didst carry
To impart such peace to me;
Grant Thy Spirit's full abundance
Till my soul returns to Thee;
May I then, Thy child, inherit
Everlasting life with Thee.
Falls the peaceful eventide;
May my will and spirit always
Thus in tranquil peace abide;
Then would all this earthly turmoil
Like a dream soon pass away,
And the blessed joy of heaven
Anchored in my spirit stay.
Loving Thee lends life true merit,
Finding in Thee blessed rest;
He who has his heart thus yielded
Shall with peaceful sleep be blest;
He partakes before reposing,
From Thy Word, the fount of light,
Then to sleep does turn serenely,
Darkest nights for him are bright.
Daily teach me to be watchful,
Nightly let me rest in Thee;
For Thou, Lord, my sins didst carry
To impart such peace to me;
Grant Thy Spirit's full abundance
Till my soul returns to Thee;
May I then, Thy child, inherit
Everlasting life with Thee.
