Lyrics
My soul longs for departure;
My heart ascends in prayer.
With joyful hope, I'm yearning
For Zion's city fair.
And yet, it is not given
My parting hour to know;
So while on earth I'm waiting,
My light I'll strive to show.
My Father God, my spirit
I trust into Thy hand;
O, lead me from this darkness
Into the Fatherland!
Thou hast my soul created;
Now take it unto Thee;
Thus I, in death or living,
Yea, Thine alone shall be.
Thou gracious Spirit, strengthen
When earth's last glance I see;
When death's pains swarm the body
Then draws my soul to Thee.
When mind has lost perception,
Yet penetrate my heart
With Jesus' blessed image,
My anguish will depart.
Ye angels, wipe my teardrops
And span death's dark abyss;
To bear my soul to heaven
Your blessed duty is.
When soul and body sever,
Lift me to Abrah'm's breast.
There free from tears and sorrow
Forever I shall rest.
My heart ascends in prayer.
With joyful hope, I'm yearning
For Zion's city fair.
And yet, it is not given
My parting hour to know;
So while on earth I'm waiting,
My light I'll strive to show.
My Father God, my spirit
I trust into Thy hand;
O, lead me from this darkness
Into the Fatherland!
Thou hast my soul created;
Now take it unto Thee;
Thus I, in death or living,
Yea, Thine alone shall be.
Thou gracious Spirit, strengthen
When earth's last glance I see;
When death's pains swarm the body
Then draws my soul to Thee.
When mind has lost perception,
Yet penetrate my heart
With Jesus' blessed image,
My anguish will depart.
Ye angels, wipe my teardrops
And span death's dark abyss;
To bear my soul to heaven
Your blessed duty is.
When soul and body sever,
Lift me to Abrah'm's breast.
There free from tears and sorrow
Forever I shall rest.
