O, let us exalt our dear Lord and proclaim,
In songs of true gratitude, praise to His name!
As songs of the angels in sweetest accord,
Our thanks and our praises shall rise to the Lord.

Lyrics
Come, my Friend and take me 'sunder,
From all tumult make me free.
Let me sit like Mary yonder
In true solitude with Thee.
Solitude and quietness
Leads to everlasting rest.

Blest is He, who from connection
With this turmoil here is free;
In God's Spirit seeks perfection
With His own apart to be,
Thinking of such works and deeds
Which eternally he seeks.

Palms along the brooklet flourish
Thus when we draw near to God;
Pray'r and truth and love do cherish,
And true worship is our lot.
Mark, distraction ne'er will bring
What in solitude we win.

What a lonely heart receiveth
Of the blessings from above,
When it all creation leaveth
For our true Creator's love!
Thus will God protect and bless;
E'en in suff'ring we'll find rest.

Thou, O God, in lone seclusion
Dwelledst in remotest past;
Blest is he who in communion
Lives with Thee while ages last.
In sweet peace let me abide,
Resting at my Saviour's side.
