Lyrics
Now have the purple shades of night,
The silent world enshrouded;
The veil of darkness blots out light,
Yet faith grants sight unclouded;
The body longs for rest;
Eyes close in weariness;
Yet wings my heart to God in prayer
To praise His daily loving care.
Thy bounty and Thy faithfulness,
My Lord, this day compassed me;
My strength drawn from Thy watchfulness,
Each breath of life comes from Thee;
Accept my thanks and praise;
My all to Thee I raise;
Naught else have I to dedicate
For these Thy benefits so great.
O grant my heart may blameless prove
As, on my bed, I'm lying;
Let patience, mercy Thy heart move
For o'er my faults I'm sighing;
I pray Thee from this day
To my charge nothing lay;
O, dearest Father, cover Thou
With Jesus' blood, my errors now.
Be Thou my light throughout this night,
My sentinel untiring;
And bridle Satan's evil might,
My downfall he's conspiring;
For he would me devour
Without Thy grace and pow'r;
O, with Thy hedge my soul enfold,
No fear shall I have in Thy fold.
The silent world enshrouded;
The veil of darkness blots out light,
Yet faith grants sight unclouded;
The body longs for rest;
Eyes close in weariness;
Yet wings my heart to God in prayer
To praise His daily loving care.
