O, let us exalt our dear Lord and proclaim,
In songs of true gratitude, praise to His name!
As songs of the angels in sweetest accord,
Our thanks and our praises shall rise to the Lord.

Lyrics
Awake, Thou soul's first inspiration;
Let watchmen stand before the temple door!
With constant zeal and firm devotion,
Against the enemy they do implore.
Their pealing calls throughout the world resound;
Salvation, Lord, in Thee alone is found.

Is thus the pious flame extinguished,
The flame of faith divine and fervent love?
Who'll call the souls unto the Master,
And lead them to the cross and Lord above?
Where is the Spirit's witness in this day?
Denying self, the Lord we should obey.

O, that Thy fire were brightly burning
And all with faith and love might be inspired!
If all this world were for Thee yearning,
For in Thy blood salvation is acquired!
O, Lord, Thou King, and Saviour, hear our plea
And grant our wish and speak, "So shall it be!"

The promise of true pastors given;
Hearts like Thine own do Thou in them instill.
Thy holy Word was never broken;
We know that Thou this promise wilt fulfill.
The enemies before Thy hand shall fall;
Thou art forever King and Lord of all.
