O, let us exalt our dear Lord and proclaim,
In songs of true gratitude, praise to His name!
As songs of the angels in sweetest accord,
Our thanks and our praises shall rise to the Lord.

Lyrics
I live 'mid my affections;
This world I do not love;
With longings true I journey
To heaven's home above;
There dwells my soul immortal;
My treasure's where my heart;
The mind, from earthly portal,
Arises heavenward.

Fade, earth and idle pleasure;
They are the soul's distress;
They glitter from a distance,
Yet who will them caress,
Accepts but filth for jewels
And for the pearls but sand;
For in their magic potion
There is but death at hand.

I love what leads to heaven,
But not to that below;
The world, its lustful tumult
And all it can bestow,
Beneath my feet I trample
And upward I aspire;
For more than worldly wisdom
Thy kingdom I desire.

Ascend, my heart with gladness;
Beyond there's joy and love;
Endure all pain and sadness
To gain the rest above!
Let others choose what's earthly,
Pursue that which is vain.
I dwell 'mid my devotions,
For thus death is but gain.
